our class offerings

WSD offers a complete curriculum ranging in courses for preschool through adult. We have a coed curriculum as well as boys only. Classes are leveled by age and ability and are offered to beginners through professionals.

Our classes are taught by trained professionals who teach technique while inspiring our dancers to reach their goals through the love of dance. Our friendly office staff is available to answer any questions concerning which class would be best for your dancer. You can email the directors at wsddanceinfo@yahoo.com and they will be happy to address any questions or concerns you may have.

Our curriculum includes the following classes:

ballet
A classical dance form characterized by grace and precision of movement and by elaborate formal gestures, steps, and poses. Ballet provides a strong, solid technical base for all other dance forms.

pointe
Ballet performed using hard-toed and stiff-shanked shoes. It is offered to those students who have mastered the knowledge and technique of ballet and have the required strength to dance en pointe. Instructor approval needed.

tap
A style of American theatrical dance using precise rhythmical patterns of foot movement and audible foot tapping. Tap helps students develop rhythm, coordination and timing as well as allowing them to make music with their feet.

lyrical
A fusion of ballet and jazz dance techniques. Dancers use motion and emotion to show the meaning of the music.

jazz

Beginner
Put your dancing shoes on and see if you can keep up! Ms. Barbara’s class has a stand and sit warm-up to ensure the children are stretched and do not hurt themselves throughout the class. The students will go across the floor and do combinations. Basic jazz technique is thrown in without them even knowing it.

Intermediate/Advanced (teen)
If you want to learn all different styles of jazz this class is for you. Ms. Barbara’s class has a little bit everything -- Broadway, funk & contemporary. A proper warm-up is a must and she always finds time for some technique. Her combinations are packed with turns, jumps and leaps not to mention lots of fun.

modern
A style of theatrical dancing which is not as strict as classical ballet. Dancers are able to develop body awareness and alignment while moving “outside the box”.

acrobatics (gymnastics)

Beginners
Students at this level will learn basic balance and strengthing moves. Class will have a floor warm-up and proceed down the mats, with beginner tricks such as rolls and cartwheels.

Intermediate
Students at this level are really looking to move ahead to bigger and faster tricks. Class will have floor warm-ups and proceed down the mats with Intermediate tricks such as running round-offs through front and back walkovers.

Advanced
Students at the advanced level are now using tricks in combination as they move across the mat. Class warm-up is a little more intense to instill the safety of the students at all times. Advanced tricks would include: back and front tumbling such as back handsprings, tucks, layouts, aerials. Discipline is a must at this level.

hip hop
A style of dance which evolved out of street dancing styles and is showcased in most music videos. This is an athletic, bouncy and funky type of dance, but above all, it is fun.

theater
Incorporates elements of dance, acting/self expression, voice, and performing techniques.

Combo Classes

Ballet/Tumble: 2½-3½ years old
On your mark, get, set -- smile! Ms. Barbara works her nursery rhythms and songs right into the ballet portion of her class and teaching them basic ballet steps without them even knowing it. The second half of class is tumbling, she works on coordinating strength moves and balances such as front tuck rolls and back tuck rolls.

Ms. Tina brings fun with a parachute to her class. A great way to warm up, dancers lift and stretch and get into the swing of the class. Instruments bring rhythm to the hour-long class. The dancers learn to sing, dance and move, move, move!

Ballet/Tumble: 4-6 years old
In this class you will see the growth as the children find themselves at the ballet barre doing an entire warm up. They will learn to go across the floor and then move into center to learn a small combination. Tumbling focuses on control and learning the cartwheel and Backbend!

Ballet/Hip Hop: 4-6 years old
The second half of class is focused on moving to songs of today. Isolations and fun movements keep the dancers upbeat and the steps funky!

Ballet/Tap: 4-6 years old
All the discipline of the ballet portion, with the rhythm and noise of tap! Basic tap moves are put together with upbeat music to teach the dancers to move in time!
